The Village of West Hoathly The village of West Hoathly is one of the highest villages in Sussex with panoramic view almost in every direction. The centre of the village is dominated by St. Margaret's Church, a building that dates back in part to Norman times and by the Manor House which is rumoured to have been a place of exile from the Royal Court for Ann of Cleves, one of the wives of Henry VIII. The high elevation of the village atop the Weald of Sussex made it an obvious place to site one of the chain of beacons that were used to convey warnings across England in bygone days.
West Hoathly is unique in the Parish in that it is home to the only remaining village shop and two pubs, "The Cat Inn" and "The Vinols Cross" (renamed for some odd reason now to be "The Intrepid Fox")
