Mid Sussex v John Spriggs Match

01 Oct 2022

Although the day had started a little cloudy, the sun eventually made an appearance just in time for the ‘friendly’ match between the 2022 Mid Sussex Division 1 winners and the 2022 John Spiggs Division 1 winners.

There was much banter and, obviously, the Mid Sussex Team felt that they were in with a chance of winning this, although the John Spriggs players had different ideas.

Although the green was a little heavy, having had a fair bit of rain on previous days, the players felt it was playing quite well.  Mid Sussex won the toss and elected to bowl first and so the battle of the three teams began amid much laughter and a little gentle heckling.

The outcome??  Well, it has to be said the John Spriggs brigade pulled out all the stops and managed to win two out of three of the games, one of which was by quite a large difference.

The overall score was irrelevant and the Mid Sussex team took their defeat in good spirit (through gritted teeth).  We must point out, however, that the MS team were short of 4 of their players and stand ins were used, whereas the JS team had a full complement.

The day ended with congratulations all round and drinks at the bar with no hard feelings.  A great way to end the season.
