Closing Drive 2020

27 Sep 2020

Despite the wind and considerable drop in temperature, 32 brave souls turned out to play their final game of the season in our closing drive.  Due to the current Covid situation, we were unable to use all our rinks so the competition was played as pairs, two groups, A & B, of 8 teams each on 4 rinks.  This allowed us to play 4 games per rink each team playing against each other once.  We alternated the Groups so that they could rest between each game.

The first game of the afternoon started at 12.30 and the final Group game at 16.15.  The winners of Group A, by a significant amount, were Guy Hodder and Karen West.  The winners of Group B, which was much closer, were Glyn Lyford and Gwen Cordory.  A final was held and the overall winners were Glyn and Gwen.  Each pair received a miniature bottle of wine with the overall winners receiving an additional prize of a 4 bar kit-kat each.  Who said the bowls club were mean.

I big thank you to Norman for turning out to run the bar, Chris Champion and Tony Grainger for agreeing to be umpires, although there was not a lot for them to do, and to the people who came and watched despite the weather.  A big thank you also to all the participants without whom there would be no closing drive.  Let us hope that next year we will be able to return to a normal season.
