A big crowd saw the naming of the Dai Howick Pavilion 16th April

24 Apr 2022

Saturday afternoon the 16th April was the nominated date to unveil the plaque naming the club house “The Dai Howick Pavilion”.  About 90 people turned up to celebrate the occasion which included family, friends and bowls club members both past and present who had both played with Dai or been on the receiving end of his advice and help.  Dai joined the club in 1974 and has served in every post apart from Treasurer.  He was instrumental in making the club what it is today; he orchestrated the building of the current clubhouse together with other members, many in the building trade, who all provided their skills and knowhow in not only the building, but providing a bowling green to be proud of.  Tony Grainger, another long serving member involved in this work, was to unveil the plaque, (which is next to the front door) but, unfortunately, he was due to have an operation so was isolating, the unveiling was carried out by Mick Nesbitt following a speech made by Trevor Swainson, two more long serving members and part of “team Dai”.

A buffet was laid on together with a belated birthday cake, Dai celebrated his 90th birthday during the pandemic when socialising was forbidden.  Special thanks must go to Ken and Jane Alexander who bravely and cheerfully manned the bar from 4 pm until 11.15 pm, quite an achievement and much appreciated.
